What are you leading?
I’m the Founder and Director at The Institute for Teaching.
We’re a specialist graduate school for teachers. Our courses have a single purpose - to help teachers to keep getting better.
Having an expert teacher in every classroom is the best way to make sure that every pupil, regardless of their background, gets a great education.
But teaching is complex – becoming an expert isn’t easy. To improve teaching we must improve the training teachers get. Teachers deserve as much effort to go into their training as they put into their teaching.
That’s why we are doing things differently. Re-thinking teacher education and providing a progression pathway to expertise that is taught by a faculty of expert teacher educators.
How did your experiences as a fellow inspire or prepare you for what you’re doing now?
Training to teach was the best decision I ever made.
Through Teach First I improved both my teaching ability and my personal effectiveness - helped along the way by the team at Teach First, my colleagues in school and the children and families I was so fortunate to work alongside.
Since completing the programme Teach First - and in particular the alumni network - have continued to help me broaden my education expertise and further improve how show up as a leader each day.
