Enseña por Colombia’s CEO Named Vice Minister of Education

We are excited to announce that Pablo Jaramillo, CEO and Co-founder of Enseña por Colombia, has been appointed Vice Minister of Pre-school, Primary, and Secondary Education of Colombia. In his new role as a member of President Juan Manuel Santos’s cabinet, Pablo will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the country’s education policies, as well as the integration of minority populations in Colombia’s education system.

Under Pablo’s leadership, Enseña por Colombia has grown significantly, serving seven regions across the country and supporting a network of 121 alumni, the majority of whom continue to work in education. Today, the organization’s 130 participants are leading classrooms in high-need schools and communities where Enseña por Colombia is recognized as a critical partner in providing quality education for children in low-income areas.

In his new role, Pablo will continue to pursue Enseña por Colombia’s and the Teach For All network’s vision and mission toward lasting change for all children. “I have always believed in the unrivaled power of education as a driver for transformation in Colombia, and the need to develop local leaders with the determination and the willingness to be part of this change,” shared Pablo. “I am, therefore, ready to undertake the duties entrusted to me, and see this role as essential in getting to know the system from the inside—obtain a firsthand understanding of the challenges we face, but above all, the opportunities we have at hand.”

Pablo will take office on 1 February 2017 and Enseña por Colombia’s Head of Program, Catalina Restrepo, will take on the leadership of the organization as the interim CEO until a permanent successor has been named. Catalina joined the team in 2013, bringing with her years of experience in social-organizational psychology and experience working in the field of sustainable development.

Teach For All congratulates Pablo on his appointment to such a critical role in shaping education policy in Colombia and ensuring all of the nation’s children can fulfill their potential. The global network looks forward to continuing to learn from Pablo’s efforts in the Ministry along with the ongoing progress and impact of the staff, participants, alumni, and students of Enseña por Colombia.
