We're pleased to announce that the 2014 Teach For All Global Conference will take place in Puebla, Mexico in October, co-hosted by Enseña por México. An annual event that is key to the foundation of the network, the Global Conference provides an opportunity for leaders, staff, alumni, and supporters of Teach For All and its partners to exchange ideas, share best practices, and learn from each other's unique contexts. CEO Erik Ramirez-Ruiz and the Enseña por México team have already begun collaboration with Teach For All on developing programming that introduces attendees to the Mexican educational landscape and the organization's approach to addressing inequity in Puebla and beyond.
It's been an exciting year for Enseña por México, one of Teach For All's newest partners. Just a few months after joining the network, the program's first cohort of 99 Profesionales de Enseña por México (PEMs) entered their classrooms in 61 schools in Puebla, one of Mexico's poorest states. In a nation with an average poverty rate higher than 47% where just over a third of students graduate from high school, Enseña por México has ambitious goals for expanding its reach, and is working with the goverment on plans to place teachers in several additional states in the next five years. In a recent broadcast on BBC Radio 4, host Jim O’Neill discussed the role Enseña por México is playing in changing Mexico’s future and the enthusiastic reception the organization and its model have received from the government.
