This week, Ofsted, England’s official body for inspecting schools and training providers, rated Teach First’s teaching and leadership program as "Outstanding” across England in 41 of 48 categories.
Teach First’s Leadership Development Programme is an intensive two-year program that combines participants’ development as practicing teachers with personal and business skills training, internship opportunities, mentoring, and access to Teach First’s Ambassador (alumni) network and supporters.
Ofsted evaluated the training that Teach First provides in collaboration with its university partners against a rigorous new teacher education framework. The report highlights the quality of the training offered to participants, who, it states, are “exceptionally well prepared to continue to improve as teachers in the early stages of their careers” and “trained to be more than just good classroom teachers.”
Ofsted also praised the participants’ positive impact on their students’ school experience, noting that “they show the grit and determination needed to do a good job in schools facing challenging circumstances” and quickly “immerse themselves into the life of the school, seizing every opportunity to hone their skills and make a real difference to the pupils in their care.”
Teach First collaborates with schools and nine university partners on a training and development program through which participants gain their Postgraduate Certificate in Education–a requirement for teachers within state-funded schools.
More than 1,600 Teach First participants began leading classrooms in September 2015—a number that has doubled in size since the last Ofsted inspection in 2011. Teach First has grown in other ways since its last Ofsted review, expanding to new areas across England and in Wales.
Teach For All congratulates Teach First on this significant recognition of its commitment to developing extraordinary teachers and leaders who are working to ensure all children receive the excellent education they need to fulfill their potential.
