As an Empieza por Educar fellow, Natalia Herrera often found herself frustrated by the systemic challenges confronting both students and teachers. To address this frustration, she turned to nature, which she believes is “the wisest school, the school that cares for all lives.” Natalia co-founded Tierra Maestra to support other teachers to reconnect with the natural world by spending time in it and learning from Indigenous communities whose lives are deeply connected to the environment.
