In 2024, Enseña por Bolivia, celebrated the second edition of Yatichawi, the Encuentro Educativo, an event that reaffirms the power of community leadership to transform education. Inspired by the Aymara wordYatichawi, meaning “to train” or “a space for learning,” this gathering became a key opportunity for reflection and action, where various actors from the educational ecosystem shared experiences, identified progress, and designed joint strategies to build a more equitable and high-quality education system.
This inclusive event brought together students, families, municipal and educational authorities, teachers, school directors, community leaders, and participants from Enseña por Bolivia, all working together to co-create a shared vision of the education they aspire to for their communities. Through dialogue and collaborative work, each represented municipality articulated its dreams, expectations, and commitments, demonstrating the fundamental role that communities play in educational transformation.
One of the main innovations of this edition was the creation of an educational ecosystem coalition, made up of municipalities where Enseña por Bolivia is present, as well as communities interested in replicating this model. Leaders from Ayata, Calamarca, Catacora, Collana, Comanche, Corocoro, Mecapaca, Patacamaya, Waldo Ballivián, Santiago de Callapa, and Santiago de Machaca participated, along with representatives from Achacachi, Ayo Ayo, Caquiaviri, Laja, Nazacara, and Sorata. Their participation strengthened ties of cooperation and commitment to education.
The event was based on the methodology of Dialogic Learning, fostering an egalitarian and supportive dialogue that ensured all voices were heard and valued. Through the exchange of experiences, participants identified opportunities for collective action, driving educational innovation within their communities with a vision of possibility and change.
Yatichawi reaffirmed the importance of co-creating education by involving all actors in the educational ecosystem in a shared leadership process. Gatherings like this strengthen the sense of collective responsibility and foster a more inclusive and transformative education system.
Looking to the future:
The success of this second edition of Yatichawi drives us to continue expanding its impact. Thanks to the learnings and connections generated, we have already signed interinstitutional agreements with Catacora and Collana to work more closely in 2025 and 2026, bringing the Yatichawi experience to more communities. Likewise, leaders and educators from Caquiaviri, Nazacara, Achacachi, Ayo Ayo, Laja, and Sorata have expressed interest in implementing the Enseña por Bolivia approach in their municipalities, opening new opportunities for collaboration.
Yatichawi marks the beginning of a sustainable movement for education in Bolivia, with real and committed participation from all stakeholders. We are excited about the future and about continuing to work collectively for the education we dream of!
