We’re thrilled to announce that Teach for Uzbekistan has joined the Teach For All global network! Teach for Uzbekistan envisions a future where all students in Uzbekistan have access to high-quality education regardless of their geographic location and socio-economic background, and strives to create a community of lifelong learners and changemakers.

Located in Central Asia, Uzbekistan has a rich history dating back over 2,000 years. In recent years, the country has made significant progress in reducing poverty and improving living standards, yet the work to achieve sustainable economic growth and development continues.

The education system in Uzbekistan faces several challenges, including a need for qualified teachers, and improved educational opportunities in rural areas. Since 2018, the budget provided to general secondary education has continuously risen, reaching 265% in the 2018-2023 period, yet there are still issues to be addressed: from internet coverage to school teacher training. Due to the relative unpopularity of the teaching profession, bright and promising young leaders seldom choose pedagogical universities, and there is a need for an improved and more consistent system for teacher training and professional development. According to the International PISA tests, Uzbekistan is now in the last quartile on all dimensions among 81 participant countries, but there are opportunities to change the situation for the better.

Aligned with the vision of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Teach for Uzbekistan aims to give new opportunities to children in the country’s rural areas. The organization will also make positive contributions to the education landscape by helping to augment the number of school teachers as well as developing and implementing new educational approaches. Teach for Uzbekistan recruits motivated and talented graduates who strive to make a positive impact by doing, learning, and teaching. Fellows teach for two years in schools in rural areas, and, as alumni, will form a community that will share the same values and experience, contributing to the future development of Uzbekistan.

Teach for Uzbekistan’s first cohort of 13 fellows has recently begun leading classrooms in the Qashqadaryo Region. In addition to delivering the school curriculum, fellows will foster a positive classroom culture, engage in extracurricular activities, and deliver social projects in communities.

Led by Co-founder and CEO Umida Yuldosheva, a passionate advocate for social justice and a dedicated leader in the field of education, Teach for Uzbekistan is committed to working collaboratively with its partner schools, local teachers, and the communities where their fellows teach to bring about positive change in the country’s education system.

We’re excited to welcome Teach for Uzbekistan to Teach For All and look forward to the insights and experiences they’ll contribute to the network.
